ONDŘEJ NAVRÁTIL (CZ) - THE DIVINE STORY OF IGNATIUS AND BOŽENA

Exhibition

Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 6:30 PM

Ignác is an impassioned collector of idols and statues with mythological themes. Božena enjoys sewing and has been working on a series of tapestries for a long time. Perhaps through divine providence, fate will lead this couple to the depths of the Chilean Andes rainforest. There, they become part of an expedition that follows in the footsteps of the long-vanished Kupik civilization, about which strange legends circulate. It is said to have moved to the mythical hollow earth before the cataclysmic crisis of long ago. But is it really just a legend?

The answer is so close! The sixty-page adventure story is almost ready for publication. It is fully coloured and the cover is being created for it...

(Ondřej Navrátil) "As part of the installation I decided to present the script, studies, statues and preparatory drawings for the story. I would like to use this installation to help illustrate to the viewer the amount of religious work, time, and of course fun that goes into creating a comic book."

Ondřej Navrátil (* 1998) comes from Květín near Zábřeh na Moravě. He is a sixth year student at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of figurative sculpture. The author is equally a creator of free drawings, prints and paintings and in 2022 he received the Graphic Artist of the Year award. Travel "train" diaries play a key role in his work, mixing everyday reality with the author's subconscious. This results in authentic drawings that, among other things, served as a source of inspiration for the creation of Ignatius and Božena. The author is a great admirer of Greek mythology, ancient civilizations and natural cultures. He is interested in science fiction themes and some contemporary conspiracy theories. All of this serves as the soil from which the God story of Ignatius and Bozena grows.
