Behind the enigmatic title “Bananas Are Under the Table” hides a screen-printed book by Anna Vohralíková, created during her studies at the Illustration and Graphic Design Studio at UMPRUM. In it, the author evaluates six years she has spent in Prague, six different residences and almost 20 roommates. She describes in a rigorous manner the hilarious and traumatic stories of living with diverse people or of living in temporary housing. She attempts to draw out the consequences of the housing crisis on the landscape of one student's life. And about the book itself—it's unwieldy and oversized, and will definitely get in the way every time Anna moves.
Anna Vohralíková (*1999) comes from Cheb, but has been trying to survive in Prague for a few years. She is an illustrator, graphic designer and teacher. She studied stage design at the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at DAMU, where she realized she was tired of just sitting in the theatre. Currently she continues her studies at the Illustration and Graphic Design Studio at UMPRUM, where fortunately she can just sit at home and draw. She also attended the School of Imagination II under the direction of the Institute of Anxiety, fortunately she didn't take much time to sit there. Her work focuses on original books, which she self-publishes in small editions. Mostly in them she documents uninteresting events in her life. A long-standing interest in folk magic and new religious movements also seeps into her work. She balances all this sitting by cycling at night and swimming in rivers.
