One night, one city and two friends wandering from one Prague pub to another. Step by step, beer by beer and story by story. There is one old love, one failed wedding and one even more failed trip to the Alps. And also owls, bison and the history that still holds us in its grip in the middle of Europe... In 2022, this book was nominated for the Max and Moritz Prize for the best German-language comic.


Jaroslav Rudiš (1972) a writer, an author of film scripts, theater, and radio plays. He debuted in 2002 with the novel Heaven Under Berlin. In Czech, he wrote four novels and two novellas, which were published in many translations abroad and were also made into films. For his novel Winterberg's Last Journey, which he wrote and published first in German, he was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize and in 2020 he won the Chamisso-Preis/Hellerau Award. In 2022, he received the Karel Čapek Prize for his work. With artist Jaromír 99, he created the cult comic Alois Nebel. He is a member of the Kafka Band. He lives in the Czech Republic and Germany and writes in both Czech and German. In 2021 he published the comic book Nachtgestalten with Austrian artist Nicholas Mahler.


Nicolas Mahler (*1969) is a comic book artist and illustrator. His comics, drawing jokes and illustrations have been published in Die Zeit, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the satirical magazine Titanic. He has won several awards for his work, including the Max and Moritz Prize for the best German-language comic (2010) and the Literary Houses Prize (2015). He has also written comic book adaptations of literary works including Thomas Bernhard's Old Masters, Robert Musil's Man Without Qualities and James Joyce's Ulysses. He lives and works in Vienna.
